STI Engineering, an international engineering company operating in 8 different countries worldwide and providing multidisciplinary design and consulting services in the Civil, Industrial, Energy & Chemicals, and Marine sectors for over thirty years, is looking for a Project Planner

The role requires a candidate that is experienced (8 to 12 years) in planning for industrial projects, preferably in the metals and minerals industrial projects. The candidate must showcase experience in dealing with complex projects timelines including managing several vendors in addition to the main supplies, consultants and contractors. Proficiency of working with highly professional scheduling programs (Primavera P6 Professional) with certifications as evidence of expertise and ability to manage a program. The candidate is expected to regularly follow up and coordinate necessary project actions and raise concerns to the management of failed parties in performing before it becomes a critical concern.


Detailed Description of the role:

  • Detailed Planning and Forecasting: Develop comprehensive project timelines, considering all project phases from design to completion. Work closely with project stakeholders to ensure milestones are achievable and support project objectives.
  • Budget Tracking and Financial Oversight: Collaborate with financial teams to align project costs with budgets. Monitor project expenditures, track cost performance, and report budget variances to support financial controls.
  • Schedule Optimization: Continuously evaluate project timelines and recommend adjustments for better efficiency. Use schedule optimization techniques to reduce bottlenecks and improve resource allocation.
  •  Critical Path Analysis: Conduct detailed analysis of project schedules to determine critical paths, helping project teams to focus on high-priority activities that directly impact delivery timelines.
  • Change Management: Manage schedule changes by analyzing the impact on project timelines and resources. Update project schedules and communicate changes effectively to stakeholders, ensuring smooth project progression.
  • Resource Loading and Levelling: Assess resource requirements and use resource loading techniques to optimize workforce deployment. Balance workloads across teams and ensure optimal use of resources.
  • Quality Assurance and Process Improvement: Develop and maintain quality assurance processes within project schedules, conducting regular reviews to identify areas for process improvement and recommending actions to enhance project delivery.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities for assessing project data, identifying trends, and interpreting metrics to support informed decision-making.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Able to think critically and resolve issues efficiently, particularly in high-pressure situations where schedule adherence is crucial.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in developing schedules, resource plans, and risk assessments to prevent errors and omissions in project planning.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work cross-functionally with various project teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to drive project goals forward.
  • Time Management: Expertise in prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively to meet project deadlines without compromising quality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Professional certification in project management (PMP, PMI-SP) or project scheduling (Primavera P6 Professional) is highly desirable.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in large-scale infrastructure projects, construction, or engineering is a strong advantage.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with project controls software, such as Oracle Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject, or other industry-standard tools.


Role-specific Goals: 

  • Achieve Timely Milestone Completion: Ensure all project milestones are met according to client specifications and internal quality standards.
  • Improve Schedule Reliability: Increase accuracy in project forecasting and enhance schedule adherence across the lifecycle of the project.
  • Facilitate Risk Mitigation: Identify schedule risks early, track potential impacts, and implement risk management strategies that keep the project on course.

Work Environment and Expectations:

  • On-Site Requirements: This role requires significant time at the project site to facilitate real-time scheduling adjustments and resource management.
  • Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to all site-specific safety regulations and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Client Interaction: Regularly interact with client representatives to align project goals and provide updates on progress, addressing any concerns proactively.
